Natural Dread Lock Creation

My preferred method for natural dread lock creation at Fiercelocks is called either a dread perm Or a locking system.  The images above were all taken on dreads that were created prior to Dollylocks organic locking systems, and they all turned out to be fantastic dreadlocks as they matured. Like lots of technology, dreadlock creation solutions have also improved!

I prefer the organic locking system  ( created by Dollylocks) because it achieves the most predictable results with the least invasive of chemical solutions. The immediate results are tighter and firmer than what I could achieve with a traditional perm kit. As far as long term results, I definitely made some gorgeous dreads with the old school perm kits that were available to me before The Dollylocks system. Currently, I offer the Dollylocks organic locking system exclusively.

The protocol for natural dread lock creation is the same for either service:  section/string bind, form, rod wind, and saturate/rinse.

Brand new natural dreads can be created within about 6 hours on an average head.

I use string at the base of all your new sections so that you begin shed collection immediately. The string acts as a binder to catch all your hair shed inside it’s coinciding lock. I recommend you receive base tie maintenance every 2 months or 1 inch of natural growth, Average quantity(approx 50 give or take) , well maintained locks only take about an hour to base tie.

A dread lock is merely a  lock of natural hair plus natural shed hair that hardens over time. The string assists with binding, shape and direction. The forming and locking system are done as a service so that your hair appears to be  mature  dread locks while the locks are actually in the process of forming.

At first the natural dreads have a slight bend to them because of how they form around the perm rod, Whether you like it or not, that curl goes away…often pretty quickly, but sometimes it lingers…You can flat iron your new dreads when they are completely dry. As that shed begins to harden and take hold in the locks however, a curl shape really can’t exist as well. The perm rods serve an important purpose of maintaining proper, even tension on your hair as the bonds are being reformed.
