Natural dreadlock creation with 10 synth fillers

Within 7 hours on a Sunday I assisted in a total hair transformation that was several years in the making. He had been considering dreads for the better part of a decade. Growing his hair, obtaining optimal length…as well as considering what is involved in the long term with dreadlock care and cultivation.
We met over Skype initially for the consult, which was a very cool experience!I got to see his hair in action, live… we got to have a low pressure informative convo in the comfort of our livings rooms… which are 4.5 hours distance apart. After gathering information on why I do things the way I do em, and feeling confident in my service provisions, we agreed on a date.
I begin my process of natural locks creation right at the middle of the nape, sectioning, backcombing, and string binding.
When all locks have been formed and bound, I wind the future dreads around plastic dowels ( perm rods) to keep tension even during the texture reconstruction that takes place during an organic locking system.
Two days before the event, I was asked if I could create some highlight synth dreads….something beachy that would look natural but obvious and interesting. He sent a photo in a text message to remind me the color, as well as suggesting colors from the doctored locks site’s color swatches. I picked up platinum, flaxen, and summer…I did not use summer…but, you never know. I mixed flaxen with platinum to create about 10 synth highlights.
I recommend getting your fillers tightened every 2 months, same as basic dread maintenance.

Natural dreadlocks – A collection of trapped hair shed

A natural dreadlock occurs because daily hair shed becomes trapped within a lock of natural hair and is allowed to stay in place and harden. Therefore natural dreadlocks form first nearest to the scalp.
Certain types of string work very well to consistently trap and bind natural hair shed, It is recommended that a base tie service occur every 2 months, or 1 inch of growth so that new growth and natural shed remain bound within the hardening lock.
The most direct method of natural dreadlock creation is completed using a chemical saturation tool – also known as a locking system. The natural hair is sectioned, bound, formed, rod wound, and finally, processed with special solutions. The result is immediate formed natural dreadlocks.

These brand new dreadlocks are very soft and will take at least a year to harden up well.
Natural hair must be at least 6 inches to be properly formed. Natural hair longer than 14-16 inches will incur additional cost forming and processing. Having extra dense hair will also take more time and supply completing this service.
With consistent maintenance every 2 months, it is reasonable to expect your natural dreadlocks to increase in length by about 6 inches a year.

Wearing anchor braid attachment extensions is another effective way to cultivate natural dreadlocks. Usually people preferring this approach will have synth dreads installed and maintained regularly while their natural dreadlocks form. The synthetic dreadlock extension are installed to intentionally  sit on top of your natural hair, therefore with proper color blending, your natural hair is camouflaged underneath the extension.
One of the draws to this approach is that you only need have about 3 inches of natural hair to attach extensions onto. Another draw, Within about 8 hours you have a full head of dreadlocks that appear to be at least 5 years mature. Long, voluminous, epic!…immediate.
When using a hair extension to allow a dreadlock to form, upkeep will be necessary about every 2 months. Expect that you will have 12 inches of hardened natural dreadlock after about 2 years of perpetual wear and consistant maintenance.

Synth Dreads are wearable art

sev3

In MY words, synth dreads are a customizable art form utilizing synthetic hair fiber, skilled hands, and imagination to create an alternative hair expression.Synth dreads can appear completely naturally grown or appear obviously cosmetic. They can be a barrage of  coiled electric unicorn colors or  take on the subtle palette of a soft stained wood grain.

If you have at least 2 inches of natural hair, fiercelocks can attach synth fiber, by way of string sealed pinch braid, and create a head full of dreads that appear to have taken years to establish but look naturally gown by you. Most full heads require an 8 hours day to complete.

*Be warned, this style looks amazing and is easy to adorn  and care for PLUS looks good every day just waking up and rolling out of bed….blah blah blah… The downsides are that it  can be heavy, hot, and itchy…OVERWHELMING EVEN…like relentless tentacles… Buyer beware and do your research. You don’t get your money back if you take em out the next day because sleeping was uncomfortable. Additionally, if you hate compliments and attention, you should avert your thoughts to somethings more contained.

That being  said right up front, talk to me because i’m very good at assisting people in finding the right balance for them. Length, density, amount… I can offer helpful suggestions to obtain the most impact with the most comfort and ease. Achieving success in this is not about going big or going home, it’s about striking the correct balance, appropriate for the individual.

Synth dreads , like most extensions, are going too be the most comfortable and look the very best if they are tightened every 2 months. Thats approx 1 inch of growth for most humans. Humans vary. Typical full head tightenings take 3 hours to tighten.

Can synth dreads become real dreads? like Pinnochio became a real boy? NO, synth dreads do not become real dreads…synth fiber does not “dread” into natural hair. Instead, this smoke and mirrors transference  occurs because of a natural biological function of the hair called SHEDDING…*ding ding ding*…We SHED about 200 hairs a day and while wearing extensions sealed with string, the string holds all your shed hair inside of the coinciding lock of hair. Your dreadlocks are actually SHED locks! With ongoing regular maintenance, your lock of shed is supported and allowed to perpetuate  itself over a LONG period of time. For instance, with about 2 years of synth dread extension wear, you will cultivate natural locks that are approx 12 inches long! During that time, you appear to have had natural dread locks for years already.

Synth dreads are wearable art imitating life…potentially, the future life of your natural dreadlocks.

Natural Dreadlock Maintenance

String + Knots = lock of hardened hair shed

Some skill required as well, but this is the most predictable form of natural dread maintenance. It works on ALL types of hair and the premise of it’s success is based on our natural shedding process. We shed roughly 200 hairs a day,  the specially designed string is sparely applied near the scalp, in a knot sequence that binds the hair shed next to it’s coinciding lock.

This method is is entirely harmless, takes only about an hour on regularly maintained locks, and does the trick! The trick being supporting your hair’s natural locking process.
